My father, aged 75, got diabetes in aged 40 and takes aspirin everyday. He recently found that his lower blood pressure level drop below 60 while the upper blood pressure level remains around 140. Does it mean that his risks of heart disease and stroke are increasing? His family doctor suggests him to do the 24-hour ECG test. Is there any better test he should try?

As we grow older than 60, our arteries get stiffened with loss of lasticity. The result is a high systolic pressure and low diastolic pressure. The target for his age would be SBP between 150-160 and we have little control over the DBP. If he is taking BP pill, we can lower the dosage accordingly. Either home monitoring of BP or 24 ambulatory BP monitoring would be helpful. For DM over 10 years of duration, the main conce
is Coronary Artery Disease and one might consider low radiation coronary CT scan.
